The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are set to be a thrilling event, especially for volleyball fans. The games will take place from July 27 to August 11, 2024. Both indoor and beach volleyball will be featured.

Venue and Schedule

Indoor volleyball matches will be held at South Paris Arena #1, part of the Paris Expo complex. Beach volleyball games will take place at the iconic Eiffel Tower Stadium at Champ de Mars. The Paris Expo complex has been modernized for the Olympics (Paris 2024 Olympics) (NBC Olympics).

The volleyball competition starts on July 27. The preliminary rounds will run throughout the first week. The quarterfinals will be on August 5 and 6, the semifinals on August 7 and 8, and the medal matches will be between August 9 and 11 (Paris 2024 Olympics) (NBC Olympics).

Qualification and Tournament Structure

France automatically gets spots in both the men’s and women’s indoor volleyball tournaments because it is the host country. The other spots were decided through qualification tournaments in late 2023 and world rankings in June 2024. This year, there will be 12 teams per gender in the indoor volleyball tournament. The teams are divided into three groups of four. The top two teams from each group, plus the two best third-placed teams, will move on to the knockout rounds (Wikipedia) (VolleyCountry).

Teams to Watch

The French men’s team, the current champions from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, are expected to do well. Brazil and Poland also have strong teams, with players like Yoandy Leal and Bruno Rezende for Brazil, and Wilfredo Leon for Poland leading their teams (Paris 2024 Olympics) (VolleyCountry). On the women’s side, the USA team, which did very well in Tokyo, is a favorite. Brazil is also a strong contender after winning silver in the last Olympics (volleyballworld.com) (VolleyCountry).

Fan Experience and Viewing Options

Fans can enjoy watching the games in person or on TV. Major networks like NBC will show live broadcasts and highlights (NBC Olympics). For European fans, traveling to Paris to watch the games will be easier due to the shorter distance.
